Stumping
Stump. Stumping. Stumped.
On November 21, 2024, I posted here my dismay at the election’s results. In disbelief that I would risk losing readers, one wrote to me with his outrage and promptly boycotted Shanghaied. I replied that my book sales are a small matter, and wondered what he would feel in four years.
Well, here we are, near the midterms with our democracy, constitution, and alliances shredded and, of all things, shanghaied. So, maybe this blog lends itself to this moment. Why am I canvassing for Senate candidates in Michigan and Maine ahead of this election? The list of reasons is long and growing.
In terms of “waste, fraud and abuse,” how has the U.S. budget grown more than 10% in two years despite firing thousands of government employees and hollowing out essential offices? A violent, masked, and overpaid army, loyal only to the Felon of the United States, struts through our communities and murders us. With impunity, they round up and deport the “worst of the worst”… like the three Latina cleaning women from my community?! The FOTUS’ majorities in Congress and the Supreme Court have betrayed their oaths and destroyed 250 years of checks and balances. He gilds his vanity projects while working-class Americans must tighten their belts more and more (thanks to his illegal, unnecessary, egotistical war that grinds on and reverses international progress). Ask yourself: why will his Big Brutal Bill’s cuts to social welfare and health care take effect after the midterm elections? How will he try to stop or deny these elections? Then there is trying to rewrite and falsify history, attacking vulnerable communities, inflaming and fanning cultural differences, etcetera.
He campaigns and rules (I can’t call it “governing”) with whining, threats, fear, anger, and most of all, lies. He loves America? Over two billion dollars richer than he was at the start of his second term, like a rapist loves his victims. Which reminds me, is everyone feeling distracted from the Epstein files?
Why am I canvassing? I love this country’s principles (more than its history), and I hope we can do better. I want an answer I can live with if my grandkids ask me what I did to stop the convicted felon in the white house.
